Synopsis

압도적이고 경이로운 시각적 체험을 선사했던 <홈> 이후, 사진작가 얀 아르튀스–베르트랑은 자신의 인장과도 같은 항공촬영으로 환경이슈와 관련된 작업을 지속하고 있다. 환경운동가로도 활동 중인 그는 UN과의 공동 작업을 통해 2011년 산림의 해를 기념하는 <숲과 인류의 미래>를 제작하였고, 이어 세계 곳곳의 물 문제를 다루는 <얀 베르트랑의 여행: 목마른 대지>를 완성하였다. 이번 작품에서는 유럽에서부터 아프리카, 아시아까지 각 대륙의 물 부족, 물 오염 실태와 최전선에서 열정적으로 뛰고 있는 활동가들의 모습을 광활한 항공촬영 이미지를 통해 확인할 수 있다.
A Thirsty World attempts to bring together Yann ARTHUS-BERTRAND's trademark aerial view of the world with the harsh, everyday reality of all those people who are deprived of water and may even die for lack of it, the people engaged in the daily struggle to find water, purify it or bring it to those who need it. Reportages filmed in Europe, Africa, Asia and America invite comments from the people working and innovating to bring water to those who need it, use it more intelligently, purify it, or, better still, stop polluting it, because access to clean drinking water is more than ever the big challenge of tomorrow.

1946년 출생. 평생 동안 야생동물과 자연환경에 대한 남다른 열정을 품어왔다. 전시 <하늘에서 본 지구>를 비롯한 장기 프로젝트를 여럿 진행하면서 활발한 출판, 전시활동을 펼쳤다. 2005년 굿플래닛 재단을 설립해 환경문제에 대한 대중의 관심과 참여를 이끌고 지속가능한 지구를 위해 구체적인 해결방안들을 구상하고 있다. 대표작으로 <홈>이 있다.
Born in 1946. Yann ARTHUS-BERTRAND has always had a passion for the animal world and the natural environment. He turned his attention towards long-term projects, books and exhibitions including The Earth from Above. He then created GoodPlanet in 2005, a non-profit organization that aims public awareness of environmental issues and to develop concrete solutions towards a more sustainable way of life.
