Synopsis

장엄한 자연의 풍경과 예술 그리고 환경 감수성이 만났을 때 어떤 최선의 결과물이 만들어지는 지를 보여주는 하나의 증거. <바다 정원>은 멕시코 에스피리투 산토섬 앞 바닷속의 인공 설치물 프로젝트를 맡게 된 스페인 출신의 예술가 크리스티나 이글레시아스를 따라가는 4년 간의 기록이다. 자연 그대로의 아름다움을 해치지 않으면서 환경보호의 중요성을 전달할 수 있는 조각품을 만들기 위해 고심하던 그녀는 결국 바닷속 환경과 조화를 이루는 최상의 결과물을 완성한다. 떼를 지어 수중을 유영하는 물고기들의 황홀한 이미지와 함께 환경을 위한 예술의 역할과 예술가의 열정을 고스란히 확인할 수 있는 아름다운 다큐멘터리.

Garden in the Sea is a documentary about art, landscape, and environment. The director followed Spanish Cristina Iglesias to the Mexican Sea of Cortez, and to the depths of Candelor Bay off the Island of Espiritu Santo, where she was commissioned to create an underwater sculpture. The well-known artist for her public installations, worked for four years to create a piece that would express the extraordinary beauty of Baja California and emphasize the importance of protecting the area. The film makes the beauty of the landscape tangible and considers not only the role of art but also human passions, experiences, and longings.

Director 토마스 리에델시메르 Thomas RIEDELSHEIMER

1963년생. 뮌헨의 방송영화아카데미에서 수학했다. 이후 독일과 아프리카를 비롯한ㄴ 세계 곳곳을 돌며 프리랜서 작가 겸 감독으로 활동해왔다. 촬영과 다큐멘터리 제작에 관한 세미나를 다수 진행했으며, 2007년부터 독일의 루드빅스부르크 필름아카데미에서 강의하고 있다.
