Synopsis

2032년의 가까운 미래, 비센테는 지구온난화 때문에 고향과 가족을 잃고 북부로 피난 온 난민소년이다. 도시변두리 쉼터에 머물면서 끊임없이 불안과 분노에 시달리는 비센테. 어느 더운 여름 날, 얼음을 조각하는 이누크 시쿠를 만나게 된 소년은 자신과 같은 상실의 아픔을 지닌 그와 친구가 된다. 아픈 과거를 공유하면서 상처를 치유하던 두 사람은 서로의 기억이 지구의 과거와 미래를 이해하는 중요한 열쇠임을 깨닫는다.

In the year 2032, Vicente, an 8-year-old Caribbean boy, has been displaced by global warming and fends for himself as an environmental refugee in a hostile Northern metropolis. Orphaned and without connection to family or friends, Vicente now lives in a children's shelter and struggles with anxiety, rage, and disturbing memories. On a hot summer day, Vicente sits outside the shelter and sees a mysterious man smashing large chunks of ice against the pavement. Thus begins an unexpected friendship between Vicente and Siku, the ice carver: two people from different worlds who have both experienced tremendous loss. Through their bond, Siku ultimately helps Vicente confront his past and understand the value of memory.

하와이와 메사추세츠에서 성장했으며 미국 오벌린대학교와 템플대학교에서 수학했다. 우간다에서 촬영한 대표작 <Where Are You Talking Me?>(2010)는 로테르담영화제의 지원을 받아 제작했다. 미국 시라큐스대학교에서 학생들을 가르치고 있다.
