Synopsis

우리 삶의 일부분이 되어버린 GMO. 하지만 우리에게 주어진 정보는 아무것도 없다. 심지어 전 지구적으로 영향을 미치고, 식량 시스템에 위협을 가해도 우리는 여전히 무덤덤할 뿐이다. 인류사에서 가장 중대한 식량수급시스템의 변화와 직면하고 있는데도 북미권 사람들은 그저 담담히 GMO를 수용한다. 하지만 빈곤과 굶주림에 허덕이는 아이티 소작농부들은 GMO 씨앗을 모아 불태워버리고 있는 것이 현실이다. 그들은 알지만 우리는 모르는 무언가가 있는 것일까? 다른 국가에 비해 유난히 GMO에 무감한 미국에서는 도대체 어떤 일이 벌어지고 있는 걸까? 미국 LA 대형 슈퍼마켓의 쓰레기통을 뒤져 엄청난 양의 음식이 버려지고 있음을 고발한 영화 <다이브!>의 제레미 세이퍼트 감독. 그가 가족과 함께 GMO를 따라 미국 전역을 여행한다.
In contrast to North America’s silent and almost disinterested acceptance of the most significant alteration of food in the history of the world, the film looks at the defiance of peasant farmers from Haiti, who marched in the streets in protest of Monsanto’s “gift” of seeds to Haiti after the devastating earthquake. In spite of their poverty and hunger, the peasants committed themselves to burning the seeds. Why do many developed nations in Europe and around the world ban, burn and protest vehemently against the introduction of GMO crops? Why aren’t people in North America, where these corporations reside and where these genetically-modified crops are being patented and developed, marching in the streets to protest the take over and contamination of our food supply?

쓰레기문제를 다룬 <다이브!>로 2010년 서울환경영화제를 비롯해 20개가 넘는 영화제에서 상을 받았다. 영화사 Compeller Pictures를 설립하였으며, 영화감독이자 활동가로서 미국 내 인권과 환경문제에 대해 목소리를 내고 있다.
Jeremy SEIFERT completed his debut film DIVE! and went on to win 22 film festivals worldwide. In 2010, he began the production company, Compeller Pictures. He is now a filmmaker and activist, traveling the country and speaking on humanitarian and environmental issues.
